John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park
As a national literary landmark, the John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park was dedicated to honor Dr. John Hope Franklin. The park was made to memorialize the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, and it showcases the stories of those that once thrived in this district. There are multiple art elements throughout the park like Hope Plaza, where you’ll see a 16-foot, granite sculpture, The Tower of Reconciliation, a 26-foot tall memorial tower, and much more. You can visit the park by yourself or take a tour to learn more about the history of Greenwood, and on top of the educational aspects, the park is absolutely beautiful and offers amazing views of Downtown.
Greenwood Rising also discusses the history of the Greenwood District and Black Wall Street, and you will love the exhibits it features. This art history center not only discusses what Greenwood has been previously, but it also showcases its transformation. Whether you want to see the Pathway to Hope, which symbolically connects what used to be Black Wall Street and is now separated by a major highway, or view the art exhibits, you will love learning about the area and seeing all that it is becoming today.
